There are many social media platforms to be on nowadays: Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube, Google Business, and TikTok. Did I forget any? Sure, I might have forgotten one or two. There are numerous channels nowadays. It becomes a challenge to decide which platform to be on.
When I visit companies’ websites, I see multiple social media icons (LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram etc.). When I click on any of them it takes me to a page that has zero activity.
The channels created are deserted. Or there was only a bit of activity at the beginning when the page was created. Is it better to list none if you are not going to be active on any of them?
How should one decide to select the channel to be on? That depends on the goal and what you want to achieve. What is your goal? Is it branding? Getting your name out there. Letting people know about your products and services. Making sales.
One way to decide whether to be on any of these channels is to find out if your target customers are there. And if they are there, are they active? This is very important. If they are not, what is the point of being there? It is like fishing on land where no fish exists. Waiting for a miracle to happen.
It becomes overwhelming to manage all these channels with no return.
Click on your own social media icons today. If you were a customer, would you be impressed by what you see, or would you find a ‘deserted’ page?
