It was motivating to listen to Molly Fletcher at Chauffeur driven Vegas show. To unleash your potential she argued you need spark, mindset, curiosity, getting better every single day, relationship, energy, resilience and be present.
Tap into the spark that you have to sustain high performance. It is something that is inside of every single person. The mindset that I haven’t arrived, what’s possible, this belief system that obstacles are opportunities. It’s a signal that we’re pushing ourselves to grow. It’s a mindset of what is possible instead of what isn’t. We find ourselves, in tough moments, tough days, moments in which we have to opt in to, at some level, a different script that will take us where we want to go. But what’s critical is that we recognize what it is that’s maybe holding us back. We reframe it to take us where we want to go, and then we reinforce it. Consider what is the inner critic that comes out once in a while chirping on our shoulder. We heard it. And how do we turn that into an inner coach? It’s a powerful shift that we can make. When we think about mindset and the things that are absolutely inside of all of us, the spark that’s inside of all of us, the other thing that I think is absolutely critical is curiosity.
Being curious is critical to our ability to shift our mindset, to potentially, at some level, take our businesses where we need to go. It is about being curious. It is about, at some level, getting in other’s head and heart, asking significant questions. How do we get in the heads and the hearts of the people that we serve or that we want to work with? How can we literally anticipate the gaps in their lives and see them before they see them themselves? How do I act like I have the business before I have the business? How do I behave in a way that sends that message fundamentally? Pull back and say, what are they really worried about? How can curiosity create more choices for you? How can you pull back and consider standing almost physically in the head and the heart of the customers that you work with or that you want more of, and anticipate the gaps in their world, see them before they see them themselves?
When winning for the sake of winning becomes only goal, only motivation, only focus. It isn’t sustainable. In fact, it’s not even fun. It is about sustained success. In other words, it’s about achieving through the lens of getting better every single day. Complacency is the enemy of success. Complacency is the opposite of drive. Just trying to unlock, maybe just a little nugget that can allow to do a little better, to be a little bit better. In other words, it’s not about the drive to achieve. It’s about the drive to get better every single day.
So when we think about this spark that’s in all of us, mindset is critical, recognizing that obstacles are actually opportunities, that adaptability is the new currency that curiosity is critical to creating more chances for ourselves, more choices for ourselves, and even those that we lead and serve. It’s about connecting with the people that you lead and certainly the people that you serve. Relationships are critical to all business success. It is absolutely critical.
If we don’t have enough energy, it’s tough to grow our businesses. It’s tough to scale our businesses. We’re in a business that is so relationship centric, so is the relationship business is hard. We have to be super intentional, about who we give our energy to, what do we chase and what do we let go of? It’s critical to consider managing our energy as much as or more than managing our time. It allows us to get really clear on who and what deserves your energy, which is the first step to being able to manage it more effectively. So energy is so critical to high performance.
So mindset is critical. We know that doing what we do at the highest level curiosity creates chances for us. We know that connection changes the way we show up in the world. But the other thing is resilience. So resilience is critical, and so we have tough days, don’t we? We have tough moments. We have tough weeks. We have tough clients. We have tough conversations. We have tough relationships, whatever it might be, it’s critical.
The thing that is critical is our ability to recover from adversity fast, because we’re going to have tough days, we’re going to have tough moments, we’re going to have tough relationships, we’re going to have tough moments, tough weeks, sometimes tough circumstances.
But recovering is critical. The biggest difference between winning consistently, that are holding trophies over their head, that are the best of the best that have won on multiple occasions, and everybody else is they recover from adversity faster than everybody else. Certainly, often we need resilience. And so that means our ability to recover quickly. Recognize that the intentionality that’s required in recovery is such an important component of our ability to show back up.
There is nobody in our world that has done anything that’s a little bit interesting, that hasn’t had a lot of tough moments, that hasn’t had tough clients, that hasn’t had a lot of challenges who hasn’t failed a ton. The difference is how they handle it. The difference is they recover really quickly. They don’t allow that challenge, that hiccup, that obstacle, that speed bump, to set them back in a significant way, and they certainly don’t stand it. That’s why those are moments, maybe where we lean into mindset to help us reset.
But here’s the thing, the best present you can give anybody in your life is to be present. The best present is to be present.
To sum up, per Molly Fletcher if you would like to unleash your potential, tap into your spark, have growth mindset, get curious, look for ways to get better every single day, be relationship centered, manage your energy, be resilient and present.
